I-476 Roadway Status: 10.13.09
|
Work is now underway on the initial stage of rebuilding I-476 between the I-76/Schuylkill Expressway Interchange and the Turnpike's Mid-County Interchange.
Lane closures will occur in the overnight hours through the end of the year. Full capacity will be restored each weekday by the start of the morning rush and will be maintained through the p.m. rush.
During this initial phase of the I-476 roadway project, crews will rebuild the shoulders (to strengthen them to bear the weight of traffic during construction) and construct cross-overs in the median in preparation for implementing a traffic pattern shift early next year when reconstruction of the southbound side of the interstate begins. (In coordination with work on the southbound bridge over the Schuylkill River.)
The contractor will institute an “express lane” pattern along this three-mile section of highway similar to what is currently in place on the twin bridges carrying I-476 over the Schuylkill River just north of the I-76 Interchange.
