PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration have funded the installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems components along the I-476/Blue Route corridor to help manage traffic flow. Traffic cameras provide traffic managers with a window on real time conditions, speed and distance measuring sensors alert technicians about congestion, and electronic message boards are positioned along the interstate to give motorists advance warning about potential backups due to incidents on the highway. These components are at work 24-7 to help motorists avoid trouble ahead.
